Shopping, exhibitions and romance all await you in Paris

Get set for savings at the Paris Winter Sales

Les Soldes d’Hiver is a little phrase to quicken the pulse of anyone who loves to shop. Yes, the Paris Winter Sales are currently underway and there’s a shopping spree with bargains galore waiting for you in the capital until February 17th. Sales are state regulated in France and come around twice a year. Department stores, boutiques, big brand outlets, retail chains and a huge variety of independent shops offer discounts of up to 50% that can even grow to 75% as the sales period goes on. You’re sure to enjoy a bargain hunt in the shopping capital of the world.

Cultural excellence at the Pompidou Centre

The Pompidou Center continues to stage challenging and fascinating exhibitions and the early part of 2015 will provide a last chance to see three of the finest so far. A Frank Gehry retrospective is presented until January 26th. The creativity of the Canadian architect who designed astonishing buildings such as Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, the Dancing House in Prague and, very recently, the new Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris is examined in thoughtful depth. Another retrospective examines the work of the controversial American artist Jeff Koons until April 27th. Working in a creative zone between high art and disposable culture, he allows us to look at banal objects in a new light. The exhibition features a preview of Koons’ new creations, as well as such well-known works as Michael Jackson and Bubbles (1988) and Balloon Dog (1994-2000). Finally, the work of the 2013 Prix Marcel Duchamp winning Latifa Echakhch is in the spotlight until January 26th. The Moroccan born artist’s work has been exhibited around the world and now, at the Pompidou Centre, she presents a fascinating new installation composed of several sculptural elements.
